Mission Overview
Sentinel-2 Next Generation (S2NG) guarantees the continuity of high-quality multispectral data from the first-generation Sentinel-2 mission while introducing significant enhancements to address evolving user needs. Key improvements include a reduction of the spatial sampling distance (i.e. finer resolution), the addition of new spectral bands designed to improve vegetation analysis and quantification of non-productive vegetation, and targeted bands for aquatic quality monitoring across both inland and coastal waters. S2NG maintains the proven spectral bands and achieved signal-to-noise ratio of the current mission while providing enhanced observing capabilities for the next generation of operational products, supporting precision agriculture, land-cover mapping, urban monitoring and aquatic ecosystem assessment.
