Mission Overview
Sentinel-3 Next Generation Optical (S3NG-O) provides enhanced continuity for the optical and radiometric instruments of the first-generation Sentinel-3 mission, covering ocean colour, land colour and sea/land surface temperature measurements. The mission will carry next-generation instruments with improved performances compared to the current OLCI (Ocean and Land Colour Instrument) and SLSTR (Sea and Land Surface Temperature Radiometer), thanks to technological evolution in detector and optics design. S3NG-O will continue to deliver critical data for operational Copernicus services including ocean forecasting, environmental monitoring, climate studies, vegetation monitoring and fire detection. The improved capabilities will enable new and enhanced products to address evolving user needs in the 2030–2050 timeframe.
