Mission Overview

Sentinel-1 Next Generation (S1NG) ensures the continuity of C-band SAR data beyond the 2030s, building on the heritage of the highly successful first-generation Sentinel-1 mission. The mission will deliver improved key SAR performance parameters, including better spatial resolution, shorter revisit time, a longer orbital SAR duty cycle and improved radar sensitivity compared to the current constellation. S1NG will continue to support a wide range of operational Copernicus services that routinely rely on Sentinel-1 data, including all-weather, day-and-night imaging for land monitoring, disaster response, maritime surveillance and ice mapping. The mission will further enable the development and improvement of downstream services through its enhanced capabilities.
